Research Centres at UiB

The University of Bergen coordinates, and is partner in, a number of research centres, with the goal to stimulate and enhance interdisciplinary research. The centres have a limited life span and are supported by a combination external funding (e.g. Ministry of Research and Education, Research Council of Norway, etc.) and UiB´s own funds.

Norwegian Centres of Excellence (CoE)

National Centres of Excellence are a stamp of quality in academic research.

Centres for Research-based Innovation (SFI)

Together with CMR, UiB is the host institution for one Centre for Research-based Innovation (SFI).

Centres of Excellence in Higher Education (SFU)

The university’s first Centre of Excellence in Higher Education (SFU), bioCEED, opened in April 2014.

The Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research (BCCR) is the largest climate research centre in the Nordic countries and among the leading centres in Europe.

K.G. Jebsen Centres for Medical Research

Stiftelsen K.G. Jebsen bidrar økonomisk til uavhengig forskning i Norge, hovedsakelig innenfor maritim og medisinsk forskning. Universitetet i Bergen har per i dag fire K.G. Jebsen-sentre for medisinsk forskning

Centre for the Science of Learning & Technology (SLATE)

In 2016 the Ministry of Education and Research awarded funding for the establishment of the interdisciplinary Centre for the Science of Learning & Technology (SLATE), a national competence and research centre.
