Scholars at Risk

UiB is member of the international university network 'Scholars at Risk' which promotes academic freedom and human rights of scholars.

Introducing Scholars at Risk

The core activity of the network is to help individually threatened academics by giving them temporary academic positions at its member institutions. The University of Bergen is currently hosting one scholar.

Academic freedom
UiB promotes a free and critical academic community where opinions can be freely shared, and where staff and students can engage in unbiased and open debate. These values are not equally strong everywhere, and many scholars experience restrictions in their research, teaching, publication and dissemination. Some are imprisoned or even threatened on life.

UiB's SAR Committee for 2015/16 has representatives from all faculties, in addition to the Student Parliament:

Leader: Vice Rector Anne Christine Johannessen
Secretary: Kristin Svartveit

Law: Maja Janmyr
Social Sciences: Lars G Svåsand
Humanities: Shabo Talay
Psychology: Kariane Therese Westrheim
Medicine: Ingvild Fossgård Sandøy
Natural Sciences: Jan Petter Hansen
Student parliamentet: Tord Lauvland

UiB Global represents UiB in the Norwegian section of SAR.
