Green growth - an illusion?

Can "Green Growth" and "Sustainable Development" be acheived as a result of economic motivation, or is politics the only way to go?

Professor Lars Mjøset (UiO) in conversation with researcher Atle Nyhagen (UiB Global) on energy, climate, sustainable development and planned regulation.

The University of Bergen has given priority to three focus areas; energy, climate and development.

Based on the journal VARDØGER (35/15) with the title "Energy, Climate and Marine Resources" (in Norwegian only), one of the editors, professor Lars Mjøset from the University of Oslo, will raise a debate about how to understand the relations between energy and climate.

He argues that the destructive instability our environment is facing due to our energy consumption can only be tamed and transformed by a systematic planned regulation.

This contradicts present neoliberal policies backing so-called "sustainable development" and "green growth"  also influential within the academic communities of UiB.

The event will be led by associate professor Atle Nyhagen. Nyhagen has written extensively about the political and professional discourses on environmental issues.

The event is open to all. Refreshments will be served.
