MoBaTooth: A biobank for human primary teeth, associated with The Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort Study

Collection of human primary teeth in cooperation with The Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort Study - MoBa

Main content

A research group in the Biomaterial Cluster has established a biobank for human primary teeth in cooperation with The Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort Study - MoBa (The Norwegian Institute of Public Health). The MoBa Study includes 100 000 pregnancies and will follow mothers, fathers and child for many years using questionnaires and collecting biological samples.

The overall aim of study is to find causal factors for disease and thereby lay the groundwork for better prevention and treatment. The biobank for shed primary teeth will represent an important supplement to the study as primary teeth can be used as biomarkers of exposure to several trace elements; toxic as well as essential ones.

Particular attention will be paid to the exposure from dental biomaterials, e.g. dental amalgam and resin-based restorative dental materials in mothers and/or children.

It is an established cooperation with the MoBa-project concerning other research aspects.
