New biomechanical testing system at BioMatLab

Characterization of mechanical properties of natural and synthetic biomaterials

Main content

The Instron 5900-series universal testing equipment was recently installed at BioMatLab as part of the biomechanical testing platform. The system can apply forces up to 10kN, and also low forces in the sub-newton range, both in tension and compression. The system includes an optical non-contact extensometer and a temperature chamber. The equipment is specially designed to test mechanical properties of a wide range of biomaterials, including bone, tendons and soft tissue.
