Dynamics of divergent and convergent plate boundaries

Main content

Forward and inverse modelling integrated with field based studies are used to understand structural style of rifts, passive margins, and orogens.

2D and 3D forward and inverse numerical modelling integrated with field based studies focus on understanding controls on styles of crust and lithosphere deformation during rifting and passive margin formation, inversion, continental collision and mountain building), feedback with strain localising processes, with surface processes, structural inheritance, magmatism, fluid flow, and petrologic self consistent density models. Several large research projects focus on the interaction of tectonics, surface processes and climate during rifting, passive margin formation and mountain belt formation.
