Text corpora

Menota is a digital archive of Nordic medieval texts. Some are accessible on more than one level: in a strict, so-called facsimile transcription, in a little less strict, diplomatic transcription, and in a normalised version. Some of the texts also contain information about the headword and grammatical form of every single word in the text.

The Menota Handbook gives practical guidelines for the encoding of text in XML in accordance with the recommendations from the Text Encoding Initiative. The Handbook answers, amongst others, questions about the encoding of special characters, the structure of the contents, morphological and metrical features, and much more. The Handbook also offers a form to use when encoding (DTD and Relax NG).
