The National Tests of English are taken each autumn by pupils at the fifth and eighth grades. They are developed by language test team the Institute for Foreign Languages at UiB.

The tests are digital and measure the pupils' listening and reading skills, including vocabulary and grammar. A teachers' guide has been developed, which gives advice about how the tests can be used and how to follow up the results with pupils.
