English-language workshop focusing on academic writing for PhD students in health sciences
The Norwegian Research School in Global Health (NRSGH) in collaboration with the Research School in International Health at the Centre for International Health, UiB, invites all its members residing in Bergen to a local network seminar on the 15th November 2017.
For the seminar we have invited Stewart Clark, an English language consultant and author of the book "The Routledge Student Guide to English Usage". He has held numerous academic writing courses for PhD students in Norway, and offers to hold a workshop in Academic English writing for us this day. Participation if free of charge and lunch will be served. Venue for the seminar will be decided after the registration deadline when we have the number of participants. This is a one-day workshop in academic writing that concentrates on how to produce English at an acceptable academic standard.
As the use of web resources is central, participants should bring a tablet or laptop.

The workshop will help participants to write academic papers at an acceptable level. Participants will become familiar with a variety of web-based resources. The lecturer will comment on texts submitted before the workshop on a one-to-one basis.
PhD students in medicine and health sciences. The workshop will be in English.
A short presentation of a theme will be followed by exercises. Participants will receive comments on a short 3-4 page English text that they submit before the workshop.

Stewart Clark, English language consultant. He has worked at NTNU for over 25 years and has held numerous academic writing courses for PhD students at all the main Norwegian universities. Author of several books on English usage including The Routledge Student Guide to English Usage, London, 2016.
