Extend your study period

Exchange students can apply to extend their study period with one semester.

You can apply if: 

  • You are an exchange student at UiB (student categories: bilateral, EEA/Norway grants, Erasmus+, Nordplus), and
  • Your exchange period at UiB does not exceed two semesters altogether.

How to apply

  1. Find courses you wish to take for the relevant semester in the English course list.
    Note that Norwegian language courses must be applied for in a separate admission on Søknadsweb (more information below).
  2. Ask your home university for a document where they confirm that you can prolong your exchange period.
  3. Apply online for the extension and upload the confirmation from your home university:

If your application for extension is granted, we will e-mail you a Letter of Extension with the updated study period.

Norwegian language courses

If you want to take a Norwegian language course in your second semester, you must apply in the admission on Søknadsweb called Norwegian language courses - Students with granted admission to the University of Bergen.

Application deadlines

You must apply by the application deadlines, regardless of whether you have been granted an extension of your study period by that time:

  • Autumn courses: 1 May
  • Spring courses: 15 October

Courses at UNIS Svalbard

You have to apply for an extension at UiB and for admission to UNIS.

Application deadlines

You must apply by UNIS' application deadlines for their courses, regardless of whether you have been granted an extension of your study period at UiB by that time.

  • Summer courses: 15 February
  • Autumn courses: 15 April
  • Spring courses: 15 October
