Programme profile

The bioinformatics group at the University of Bergen was the first of it's kind established in Norway, and also one of the first internationally. The group has extensive international cooperation. There is established a centre for bioinformatics (CBU, Computational Biology Unit). It is connected to the bioinformatics group, with common localization. The master students can be supervised by researchers at CBU. More information can be found at the home pages for the group, and at www.cbu.uib.no.

The Degree

The master's programme leads to the degree Master of Science in Informatics. It is a two year programme (120 ECTS credits).

Programme structure

A master's programme in bioinformatics consists of an individual research project (master's thesis) of 60 ECTS credits, and courses or special topics of 60 ECTS credits. Some of the courses are compulsory, while the other courses will be chosen in agreement with the academic supervisor.
