University of Bergen Library

Lending and Renewing Loans

Most of the material at the University Library can be borrowed for four weeks, and possibly renewed.

Library cards
Students and staff at the University of Bergen use their student card or employee card as library cards.

For other users, a library card can be issued at each of the branch libraries. New users will be asked to show a valid form of identification. The library card can be used at all branch libraries, and may also be registered as a national library card. You can find out more about the University Library's lending policies here.

Loan periods
The loan period is specified for each loan. Normally it will be four weeks. The loans will be automatically renewed up to maximum borrowing time, normally between four and six months, unless requested by other users. Check the due date by logging on to My account in Oria.

Interlibrary loans
If a student or University staff member wants to borrow literature not owned by the University Library, the material can be requested from other libraries in Norway or abroad. If the materials you have requested are not at the University's Library, the materials can be lent from another library.

Students Registered in Distance Learning Programmes
If your place of residence is outside Bergen, and you do not make periodical trips to your place of study, you can have the materials sent to your place of residence.

You must pay for return postage of the materials, and you will be billed bi-annually for copies of articles.

To take advantage of this offer please fill out this form and send it to the library.
