UPED620 Basic Module (day 6)

This course is open for scientific staff at the University of Bergen. New appointments in permanent scientific positions have priority for enrollment.

Main content

The primary object of the module is for participants to reflect on teaching and learning issues through what we know from research and experience about teaching and learning in higher education.

The module has three basic components:

  1. Experiential Learning: The module is based on the participant's own experiences as students and instructors in higher education, as well as a variety of learning activities employed in the module.
  2. Critical Reflection: Particpants reflect on and analyze teaching and learning in higher eduation by focusing on student learning.
  3. Behavior Guidelines for Teaching: Participants discuss, cooperate, and observe each other's teaching as part of being members of a wide community of teaching at the university.

Content: Perceptions about teaching and learning; Student factors in the learning process; student-centered learning methods; design of good learning; assessment and evaluation; education policy documents.

The module has 6 teaching days (7 hours each) and 2 colleague visits (3 hours). Teaching takes place on 2 groups of 3 days with an intervening period of 2-3 months.  The colleague visit takes place in the intervening period.

The module is limited to 20 participants.

To receive credit for the course, participants must attend at least 80% of class meetings
