The Public Outreach Section
The Public Outreach Section aims to ensure that the University Museum of Bergen at all times reach as broad an audience as possible by organising for visitors’ access to the museum, and by various educational and outreach activities.
The Public Outreach Section organises and arranges for visitors’ access to the University Museum of Bergen. The task of the Public Outreach staff is to ensure that activities that take place at the University Museum of Bergen at all times reach as broad an audience as possible. An important task is to contribute to an increased understanding and consciousness of natural and cultural heritage.
The outreach activity takes a variety of forms and is based on the museum´s collections. Based on the exhibitions, guided tours and also special programmes and events for schools and day-care centres are offered. It is also possible for other groups to book a visit to the museum. Appointments for visits outside the museum’s ordinary opening hours may be made.
There is a museum shop in both buildings housing The Natural and Cultural History Collections. It is possible to buy souvenirs, postcards, and publications, both scientific and popular scientific ones. The majority of the publications for sale have been published by the museum. The public outreach staff assists in finding the proper professional to answer museum-related enquiries.
