Department of Exhibitions, Learning and Public services

The University Museum of Bergen shall stimulate increased interest and knowledge about our natural and cultural heritage. The Department of Exhibitions, Learning and Public services`s responsibilities cover exhibitions, learning and public services. An important task of the Museum is to communicate knowledge about both research and collections.

The Museum’s collections comprise both scientific collections and exhibitions open to the general public. In addition to the exhibitions in the Natural History Museum building and the Historic Museum building, you will also find collections of livings plants outdoors in the Museum Garden as well as in the Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Milde.

Department of Exhibitions, Learning and Public services organises and makes arrangements for the contact with and the communication to the general public, not least children and young people. This dissemination takes place in a variety of ways, based on the exhibitions open to the general public. Other important parts of the division’s work is to offer educational programmes for  various age groups, events, publications, web pages and online exhibitions, media outreach and organisation of various types of research dissemination.

In the exhibitions, guided tours are offered, also special programmes for kindergartens and schools. The museum shops in offer, among other things, books, postcards, educational gifts and souvenirs.
