KIK Conference 2011 - CUBA

Since the current reform process started in 2010, Cuba has made more ‘noise’ than usual; the "historical generation" of the Cuban revolutionaries is for natural reasons leaving power, and Raúl Castro, who has recently opened the way for private initiatives, seems to be moving firmly towards a transformation of the country’s economic system. Simultaneously, we have witnessed increased tolerance in different cultural fields, and the fiber optic cable that was recently laid from Venezuela promises faster Internet and more widespread access for the Cuban people. These changes provide us with a suitable background as we seek to approach the country from new perspectives, directed towards its past, present, and future.

We welcome contributions related to national identity issues, literature, popular culture, cinema, religion, mass media, political and economic reforms, migration, and Cuba’s role within a Caribbean and/or Latin American context.  

Languages: The official languages of the conference are Spanish and English.
 
Deadline for abstract submissions: Closed.

Deadline for participation without paper: Friday 19 August at 12 pm.

Regular fee: 700 NOK.
Student fee: 350 NOK.

If you arrive by plane, the best alternative is to take the airport bus to the Fish Market in the center of Bergen. From there you follow the street “Strandkaien” on foot along the bay, until you get to the street “C. Sundtsgate”.

Conferencia KIK 2011 - CUBA

29 a 30 de agosto de 2011, Bergen, Noruega.

El grupo de investigación “Caribe: Identidades y conflictos” ("KIK", en sus siglas noruegas) celebrará su primera conferencia internacional en Bergen, Noruega, del 29 al 30 de agosto de 2011. La conferencia estará dedicada a estudiar cuestiones estéticas, culturales y políticas sobre Cuba.

Tras el proceso de reformas del 2010, Cuba ha hecho más ruido de lo normal; la generación histórica de la Revolución va naturalmente dejando el poder y Raúl Castro, con su reciente apertura a iniciativas privadas, parece dar un paso seguro hacia una transformación del sistema económico de la isla. Paralelamente, existe un mayor grado de tolerancia en el plano cultural, a su vez que el cable de fibra óptica que se alarga desde Venezuela promete más amplio acceso a Internet. Estos diferentes momentos de cambio nos ofrecen una buena oportunidad para mirar tanto hacia el futuro como hacia el pasado de Cuba desde nuevas perspectivas.

Las colaboraciones para esta conferencia podrán tratar cuestiones relacionadas con identidad nacional, literatura, cultura popular, cine, religión, medios de comunicación, reformas políticas y económicas, migraciones y el papel de Cuba en un contexto caribeño y/o latinoamericano.

 

Idiomas: Las lenguas oficiales de la conferencia serán español e inglés.
