The project seeks a better understanding of international law and practice relating to the most shocking crimes committed against fellow human beings. Well-known examples include genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. Under what circumstances is a person legally responsible for a certain kind of participation in such henious acts? What are the legal conditions for being held accountable? Today, several regimes of criminal law and institutions exist within current international law, posing some particular challenges to traditional legal analysis, which is often premised upon a more unitary framework of law and jurisprudence. The main purpose of the work, therefore, is hopefully to contribute to a more coherent, practical understanding of the international criminal law applicable to grave crimes.
