Gjesteforelesning med Professor Timothy Williamson

GJESTEFORELESNING MED PROFESSOR TIMOTHY WILLIAMSON

Torsdag 16.februar kl. 10.15-12, vil den kjente Oxford-filosofen Timothy Williamson holde en gjesteforelesning med tittelen "Imagination and Knowledge". Forelesningen vil finne sted på aud A, Sydneshaugen skole.

Professor Williamson er Wykeham Professor of Logic ved Universitetet i Oxford, og har skapt seg et stort internasjonalt ry gjennom bøker som "Knowledge and its Limits" (2000) "Identity and Discrimination" (1990), "Vagueness" (1994) og "The Philosophy of Philosophy" (2007).

Professor Williamson har sendt oss følgende abstraktet av sin forelesning: "According to the usual stereotypes, knowledge and imagination are opposites, one concerned with fact, the other with fiction. I will argue that such a contrast rests on a radical misunderstanding of the nature of imagination, which is a reality-oriented faculty whose primary function is cognitive, whatever other uses we may put it to."
