Professor Macaro beskriver innholdet i forelesningen slik: In this presentation I shall attempt to illustrate some problems inherent in studies of language learner strategies (LLS).

We will first look at what the claims are that are made by researchers working in the field of LLS and what some of the early (1980s and 1990s) research literature was telling us.

I shall then identify a number of criticisms made of LLS research before going on to present my own theoretical framework for LLS and LLS research. I will argue that unless these methodological issues are resolved, then the argument  in favour of learner strategy instruction is undermined.
