This day-long workshop revolves around the notion of paratext, a literary theory first presented by Gérard Genette in 1987 (Seuils / English translation "Paratexts. Thresholds of Interpretation" 1997).
Originally thought in relation to manuscripts and printed text, the theory of paratext ambitioned to describe how texts materialise through the distribution and presentation of textual and contextual information that accompanies and structures text.
In digital contexts, the paratextual dimension tends to exhibit new qualities.
This workshop focuses on paratext theory in digital realms and explore how paratext may offer a common ground for scholars in information and library science and in other humanistic disciplines.
The morning session offers a keynote by invited guest scholar Nadine Desrochers, Assistant Professor at the Université de Montréal’s School of Library and Information Studies (EBSI), followed by two contributions by PhD-candidate Patricia Tomaszek and Associate Prof. Daniel Apollon, both from the Digital Culture Research Group at the Department of Literature, Linguistics, and Aesthetics at UiB.
The shorter afternoon session will offer a series of short project presentations performed by invited speakers covering topics such as digital archives, databases, electronic literature, digital editions, bibliometrics, and related research provide a springboard for further discussion moderated by Nadine Desrochers.
This workshop is opened to all interested ! Please feel free to forward this message.
