Research and teaching at the Gade Institute comprise the fields of pathology and forensic medicine, bacteriology, virology and immunology. Each year 150 medical students, 48 odontological students, 25 students of pharmacy and 21 students in dental care complete their courses and examinations in these paraclinical fields. Advanced courses are organized for research fellows and medical doctors and dentists. Our research projects focus mainly on human diseases such as cancer, tuberculosis, AIDS and Sjøgren’s syndrome. The staff of the Gade Institute works in close collaboration with the corresponding diagnostic departments at the Haukeland University Hospital.

The Broegelmann Research Laboratory and the Influenza Centre are integrated groups at the Gade Institute. From January 2008 the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry have fused and the environments of Oral Microbiology and Oral Pathology and Forensic Odontology are now integrated with the Gade Institute.
