Bacteriology

Bacteriology is part of Section for Microbiology and Immunology at the Gade Institute.

Bacteria.

Bacteria.

The main objectives are releated to the identification and characterization of bacterial factors associated with virulence, and development of diagnostic methods for identification of bacteria from patient specimens. The research is pursued in collaboration with national as well as international research groups.

Mycobacterial research is a major topic. There are several ongoing projects within the fields of vaccinology; improved diagnostic methods for tuberculosis; molecular epidemiology and antibiotic resistance of tubercle bacilli.

In recent years we have adopted moderen mass spectrometry methods in order to characterize the proteins expressed by tubercle bacilli and other microbes.

There are also projects in general microbiology in collaboration with Department of Microbiology at Haukeland University Hospital.
