This year’s Broegelmann lecturer

The Broegelmann lecturer for 2011 is Professor Lars Klareskog, MD, med. Dr., at Karolinska Institutet, Rheumatologic clinic and Rheumatologic research unit.

A deeper understanding of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)

In the lecture, Klareskog will discuss how recent image scans have led to a more thorough insight into the structure of genes, and how the interaction between genes and the environment affects the autoimmune system. Klareskog’s studies lay the foundation for several hypotheses about the etiology of RA – something which, potentially, could lead to future breakthroughs in research related to the prevention of RA.

The lecture will take place on Friday May 20, 1 pm – 2 pm, Main Auditorium, Haukeland University Hospital. Anyone who wishes to attend is welcome.

Seminar on autoimmune diseases

In addition to the lecture, there will also be arranged a brief seminar – “Immune mechanisms in polymyositis and dermatomyositis.” The seminar will be hosted by Professor Ingrid Lundberg from Karolinska Institute, and will focus on the chronic inflammatory diseases polymyositis and dermatomyositis – both of which affect muscle tissue. The seminar will take place on Friday May 20, 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm in the seminar room on the 5th floor of the New Laboratory Buildling.
