Overall Goal and Primary Research Focus

CGB aims to develop new fundamental knowledge about the interaction between the geosphere and biosphere and the roots of life.

The primary research focus will be on the deep seafloor, the deep biosphere and the ancient crust formed in deep time.

By organising deep-sea expeditions, undertaking drilling campaigns and initiating national and international research projects, CGB has developed a strong research programme that has concentrated on the deep seafloor, on the deep biosphere, on crust formed in deep time and the roots of life.
