Researchers at CGB are exploring analysing the dynamics of geological processes, targeting areas such as hydrothermal vents where extreme conditions may mimic conditions on early earth (and on other planets) as well as studying areas where we find some of the oldest rocks on Earth to see what can be learned about the origin of life on Earth, and even about the possibilities for life on other planets.

CGB researchers are also developing state-of-the-art tools that can analyse chemical signatures to determine whether the compounds in question are of biological or geolobial origin.
