Admission Requirements

Performance
Documentation of repertoire of at least 180 minutes that has been studied and for the most part performed, including at least 30 minutes of chamber music. An audition based on a self-chosen programme of approx. 45 minutes. The audition programme should include different styles and genres that are of central importance to the instrument. The repertoire for the audition must be included in the application and be approved by the Department before the audition.
Composition
Composers are required to submit a substantial documentation of works, recordings and also a CV of former education and artistic experience and activities. This includes a documentation of composed repertoire of approx. 45 minutes. The main works should be of a high artistic level. Composers should present the contexts in which the works are composed and performed. A written account of the applicant’s motivation for studies. This must include in which way the applicant wishes to focus his/her aesthetic expression and future perspectives for personal artistic growth. The jury can also give relevant additional tests if found necessary in relation to the submitted documentation and the need to test the applicant. In case of this, the applicant will be contacted at an early stage and given necessary time to prepare.
Audition
Auditions are held during the period 5th - 9th March 2012. You will be contacted by e-mail about audition times. Foreign applicants who are not able to do a personal audition must send an unedited, recently made recording of high quality of the self chosen audition repertoire with the application (DVD video of minimum 45 minutes length). The jury will carry out the interview with the applicant by telephone.
The applicants will be notified by email about the audition results. A passed audition result does not mean that the applicant is offered admission. Student Services at the University of Bergen will e-mail and send a Letter of Acceptance to accepted applicants. Student Services will also e-mail all applicants who are not offered admission.
