Tone Bjørge Professor (Head of section) Tlf. 5558 8530 Tone.Bjorge@uib.no		Section for epidemiology and medical statistics The Section is a result of the merger between former Sections of preventive medicine and medical statistics (SMiS). It holds expertise in and teaches preventive medicine, epidemiology and medical statistics. The Section also provides counselling for the faculty's scientists and maintains competency in software for statistics, graphics, and databases relevant to medical research. Several of the Section's scientists have ties with the National Institute of Public Health (Medical Birth Registry), and the Centre for Medical Genetics and Molecular Medicine, Haukeland University Hospital. The Section also leads the Locus for registry-based epidemiology.
