Your Excellency,
My name is ......................, I am a member of Amnesty International. I am writing to You, appealing for the release of Dr Ma Thida who was sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment 15th October 1993.
Dr Ma Thida is a surgeon, born 2nd September 1966. She is a member of Myanmar's political opposition, and was arrested together with a number of other NLD members. She is held in Insein prison in Yangoon, solely for her peaceful political opposition activities. Therefore, Amnesty International has adopted her as a prisoner of conscience.
It has come to my attention that Dr Ma Thida is in bad health. She has been treated for tuberculosis and is presently suffering from endometriosis. This is of great concern to me, and I would like to receive information as to the length of her hospital stay and what investigations and treatment she received. What is her current state of health? I hope that she will receive all necessary medical care.
Yours respectfully and sincerely
