In the last ten years, Dr. Beko Ransome- Kuti along with other notable human rights activists in Nigeria has been victims of various military dictators in Nigeria. His mother (Late Mrs (Chief) Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti) who was both a prominent politician and human right activist was also victim of Military brutality in 1977 and this eventually, led to her untimely death of the age of 78 years! Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti also sustained some fatal injuries during this brutality.

Since 1977 to date - Ransome-Kuti's family has been illegally and inhumanly harrassed, detained and brutalized by the Nigerian military rulers without proper court trials. Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti is a medical doctor, human rights activist, patriotic Nigerian and a dedicated democrat. He is the chairman of a frontline pro-democracy organization in Nigeria known as CAMPAIGN FOR DEMOCRACY (CD). CD is an opposition to military dictatorship in Nigeria that is making life miserable and not worth-living for the down-throdden masses of NIGERIA. Our Military dictators have no respect for our fundamental human rights endorsed in the constitution of our great nation - NIGERIA.

Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti was illegally arrested by the Nigeria state security service (SSS) agents who were fully armed to the teeth on 27th July 1995 at his residence in Lagos, Nigeria. He along with other assumed coup suspects were later tried and sentenced to various jail terms. He was later sentenced to 15 years imprisonment!

Under this military tribunal, there is no room for any form of appeal to be filled. Their "remote - controlled" verdict is binding and final!

The same military tribunal was set up last year for the OGONI CRISIS IN NIGERIA that eventualy led to the "special-hanging" of Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight other Ogoni activists. Despite the court injuction asking for Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti to be produced for proper court trials. The military has frustrated all the attempts for his bail.

Few months ago, Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti was illegally transferred from Lagos state (Western Nigeria) to Katsina state (Northern Nigeria). He has been in a Solitary confinement since his illegal arrest last year. He was denied access to members of his familiy, friends, lawyers and medical doctors. This is a violation of his fundamental human rights. His state of health has been deteriorating rapidly.

Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti has been exposed to various inhuman treatments by the Nigeria military dictators.

The present military government in Nigeria under General Sani Abacha must be both internally and internationally held responsible should in case anything worst happen to all the prisoners of conscience (including Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti) within their custody who were detained and tried under an "hand-picked" military tribunal.

In recent times in Nigeria, many pro-democracy activists, students, journalists and opposition leaders were arrested and illegally detained by the present military regime under General Sani Abacha.

In conclusion, the great struggle to release all the political detainees in NIGERIA si now in motion, Victory is certain.
