  • Tuesday August 13 th SAMSPEL invites to a session and debate about "Knowledge and the Arts", and on Wednesday 14 th to a session about "Musical Diversity".
    Panel members Tuesday will be David Elliott, Canada, Graham Welch, UK, Minette Mans, Namibia, Regina Murphy, Ireland, and Director Jostein Osnes , Norwegian Board of Education. Discussant will be Paul R. Lehman, US, and Mange Espeland, Norway will chair the session. The Session on Wednesday will be chaired by ISME Presidents John Drummond and Einar Solbu.

  • It has now been confirmed that H.R.H Queen Sonja will be present at the SAMSPEL Opening Ceremony which commences at 10 am Monday the 12th of August.
    The Opening Ceremony will have many interesting elements and will present a spectacular cultural programme.

  • You can buy one or more Day Passes at SAMSPEL at NOK 1000 pr. day. For Wednesday, which has the afternoon open for excursions, the price is NOK 500.
    With a Day Pass you have access to all parts of the academic programme from early morning and to lunch and afternoon
    concerts at the MusicsFest.

    New dealine for Early Bird - registration
    ISME 2002 has decided to set a new deadline for Early Bird registration.
    The new deadline is May 1st. So save money - register now!

    Conference funding
    ISME 2002 Conference has received financial support from GC Rieber Foundation and Bergen Municipality.

    Board of ISME International visits Bergen
    The board of ISME International headed by president John Drummond visited Bergen in June. The board held a meeting at a venue close to Bergen, and inspected the conference locations.

    ISME 2002 has received a grant of NOK 200.000 from the University of Bergen Trust Fund to support the conference.

    Calls for ISME 2002 announced!
    Calls for ISME 2002 is now available on this website. Closing
    dates for submissions are June the 15 th 2001 for Performance Groups and September the 20 th for Presentations.

    Decisions taken on invitation of keynote- and plenary speakers
    ISME president John Drummond visited Bergen last week to enter into final talks on keynotes, plenary speakers and other aspects
    of SAMSPEL with the Bergen COG. Agreement was reached on
    all issues negotiated, including keynote- and plenary speakers, and conference session formats. Calls for ISME 2002 are scheduled to be published on 30 November.

  • ISME 2002 to include the ISME 2002 MusicsFest
    The Bergen COG has decided to organise the performance programme at the Conference as an ISME 2002 MusicsFest. The MusicsFest is a festival which takes place partly at Conference venues as lunchtime concerts and partly as concerts and performances in the city of Bergen's many indoors and outdoors concert venues.

    ISME 2002 establishes ISME2002 projects
    ISME Bergen 2002 encourages institutions and individuals all over the world to initiate projects that will strengthen and promote
    music education. ISME2002 Projects are projects that have obtained a special status and long term relationship to the Conference. ISME2002 Projects will receive special attention in
    the years preceding and during the Conference. Criteria for achieving status as ISME2002 Project will be announced in the Call for Presentations.

    ISME2002 establishes on-line discussion forum
    The Discussion Forum is intended for COG, the ISME executives and the Commission Chairs. right now Session Formats for the Conference and the role of Commissions in the Conference are being discussed.

    Submission deadlines negotiations with the ISME Board
    Calls for presentations and performances will have a somewhat later deadline than previously announced. Calls will be announced during november 2000. This delay applies to submission dates as well.

    ISME 2002 in CANADA II
    Newly appointed Norwegian ambassador to Canada, Ingvar Havnen took part in ISME 2002's first official announcement of the Bergen Conference in Edmonton Canada, 22 July 2000. Havnen invited an audience of 600 to travel to Bergen and Western Norway in 2002
    to take part in the world conference in music education.

    ISME 2002 Chair Magne Espeland introduced the conference theme SAMSPEL and expressed on behalf of the ISME 2002 Board a hope to make this conference one step further towards conference as process. The Norwegian programme showed the result of SAMSPEL over two days between Norwegian musicians and Canadian children and an aboriginal family. They all performed on stage with indigenous music and dance, Norwegian and Canadian, illustrating the theme of the next world conference in Bergen, 11-16 August 2002. The programme was warmly received, and was followed by a reception.

    ISME 2002 in CANADA I
    Ambassador Havnen will be present during the closing ceremony and the following reception to greet and welcome the international community of music educators to Bergen in 2002.

    A comprehensive Norwegian musical programme will be presented at the Closing Ceremony at ISME 2000 in Edmonton, Canada. The programme has been planned in close co-operation with NorConcert. Four young and very able musicians will present a programme of traditional folk music and dance tunes from Norway, contemporary music, and world music, - all reflecting the main theme of ISME Bergen 2002: SAMSPEL - Together for our musical future. We promise a performance with a young and humorous form with some unexpected happenings.

    A reception open for all with the Norwegian ambassador present follows the ceremony.
