A muraqqa' by the Istanbul-born calligrapher Yedikuleli Seyid Abdullah (d. 1144/1731), presented to the Ottoman Grand Vizier Damad Ibrahim Pasha in 1131 A.H. The illustration is from Shevket Rado, Türk Hattatlari (Istanbul: Yayin Matbaacilik Sanayii, n.d.), plate following p. 144. On Yedikuleli Seyid Abdullah, see ibid., pp. 136-37.

The text here, the latter part of a saying of the Prophet, is a single frame from the original composition and is incomplete: "… to your hearts and to your deeds. The Messenger of God has spoken the truth."

The entire text of the hadith is translated as follows: "Verily Allah does not look to your faces and your wealth but He looks to your heart[s] and to your deeds." Sahîh Muslim, Kitâb al-birr wa-al-salâh wa-al-âdâb, hadīth 6221; trans. 'Abdul Hamid Siddiqi, slightly altered in brackets.
