The research center is located at the Institute of Biomedicine, University of Bergen. The project is interdisciplinary and represents a total of four departments and two faculties, in addition to the Centre for Medical Genetics and Molecular Medicine and Division of Psychiatry, Haukeland University Hospital.

Mental disorders are a major cause of human suffering, disability and social costs worldwide.
In contrast to somatic diseases, there are no laboratory tests that can clarify diagnosis and there has been minimal progress in drug treatment in the last 50 years. This is mainly due to our lack of knowledge about disease mechanisms in these conditions.
