INVITATION

The first International Conference on Cultural Policy Research is organised by the Centre for Cultural Research, University of Bergen, in co-operation with the International Journal of Cultural Policy. The conference is sponsored by the Research Council of Norway, Program for Cultural Research.

The conference aims to provide an outlet for interdisciplinary and international exploration of the concepts, function and impact of cultural policies. It will reflect a broad view of cultural policy, encompassing culture as a "way of life" as well as culture in the narrower sense of the arts and the cultural industries. It will be concerned both with the policies of institutions and with the wider discourses relating to general conditions of culture.

The conference has invited participants to present papers on the following topics within the field of cultural policy research:

Registration and deadlines

The call for papers was due on April 15th 1999. 

All partcipants are asked to send a registration form. You can download the registration form (RTF) and fax or mail it to the Centre for Cultural Research.Registration is also available online.

Registration is only valid after the payment has been received. The registration deadline is September 1, 1999. Please note that all registrations received after this date will be charged extra.

Conference fees

The conference fee of NOK 2500 includes conference participation, three lunches, two dinners, coffee breaks, reception and a cultural program. NOK 3000 will be charged for all registrations received after September 1, 1999. 

Partipicants from countries with non-convertible currencies and students: NOK 500. 

Accomodation

Reservations are to be made using the conference registration form. Payment must be made individually by each participant upon departure. 

Location

The conference takes place in Bergen, the second largest city of Norway with over 225 000 inhabitants. Bergen is situated on the west coast of Norway, and is known as the "gateway to the fjords." Bergen has been elected a European city of culture in the year 2000. 

The conference venue - Radisson SAS Royal Hotel Bergen - is situated in the center of Bergen, on the famous "Bryggen" (waterfront).
