The department of Surgical Sciences is divided into following sections:
- Section for Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care
- Section for Surgery
- Section for Neurosurgery
- Section for Orthopaedic Surgery
- Section for Plastic Surgery
- Section for Radiology
- Section for Thoracic Surgery
- Section for Otorhinolaryngology
Teaching activities in medical school are mainly concentrated to four 'surgical blocks' in the clinical part of the curriculum.
Some of our teaching takes place at other hospitals:
Kysthospitalet i Hagevik (Orthopaedic University Hospital),
Bergen Accident and Emergency Department,
Haraldsplass Deaconal Hospital,
Førde Central Hospital,
Haugesund Hospital ,
Stavanger University Hospital.
Research activities spans from clinical and epidemiological projects to basic experimental lab-research. Animal studies are located to Surgical Research Laboratory and The Vivarium. Several researchers are involved in projects located at other departments, nationally as well as internationally.
