PhD registration
Since January 2010, all PhD Candidates at the UiB must register on the StudentWeb every six months. PhD candidates must approve their individual research training plans and register for research courses at the UiB when registering.
Why PhD registration?
The PhD regulations require PhD candidates to inform their faculty about their progress. PhD registration is part of the overall quality assurance of research training and the follow-up of each candidate. Candidates who fail to register will be followed up to ensure that they register or that the research training is terminated, pursuant to the PhD regulations section 4.4 Reporting, and section 5 Termination of the organised research programme prior to the contracted time.
What is PhD registration?
Registration takes place through a website (StudentWeb) where candidates must update and keep track of their individual research training. The website is found at studentweb.uib.no PhD registration from the autumn is available from 14 December 2010.
On StudentWeb the candidates register for research courses at UiB, confirm their research training plan, and update their contact information. In addition it is important to report any absence exceeding two weeks in the last 6 months, as this could mean a prolongation of the PhD contract period.
Registering for courses at the UiB
Research courses the candidate plans to follow at the UiB are either already in the training plan or can be added after the plan has been confirmed by clicking "Add course". Once courses have been completed and approved, this will show on StudentWeb. This means that the candidate can easily keep track of what courses and activities that remain to be completed for the training component to be approved.
Courses and seminars that are not held at the UiB
For approval of external activities as part of the training component you must apply by submitting a form and relevant documentation to the faculty as soon as the activity is completed. The form can be found under Forms at the Faculty's web page. This should be done as soon as the course or activity has finished. If the course is approved as part of the training component, this will be visible to the candidate on StudentWeb.
The same form is to be submitted when applying for approval of scientific dissemination. Every PhD candidate must have six ECTS credits of Scientific Dissemination, and this will now be approved as a whole and has been given the course code FORMIDL901. Please attach all relevant documentation. If the candidate has obtained more than six ECTS credits for Scientific Dissemination or wants to apply for approval of more than one external course at the same time, only one application form is needed.
PLEASE NOTE: DEADLINE FOR PHD.-REGISTRATION IS 1 FEBRUARY AND 1 SEPTEMBER EVERY YEAR
