ABSTRACT

[engelsk]

Evangelical and Charismatic Christianity, frequently referred to as Pentecostalism, has been called the most successful social movement of the 20th century.

From it's birth at the beginning of the 20th century it spread fast throughout the world, with an accelerating growth, particularly in the global South, in the last decades.

Today maybe as many as 6-800 million people can be included in this "charismatic wave".

A growing concern for the global movement these days is, as they see it, their lack of social impact - despite the number of adherents.

New evangelization methods are being carved out by leading Pentecostals who meet in various trans-local foras and which are spread in seminars and conferences, social media and other internet-sites. A main development goes from so-called vertical conversion (of the individual) to horizontal conversion (of society and culture).

This horizontal evangelization has consequenses, not only for the born-again individual but also for societies and cultures since it includes a "conversion" of society as well.

In this presentation I will discuss some of the most important global actors leading on in this trend, the Lausanne Movemement and Transform the World, and their missionary strategies, holistic mission and creation care.
