Bølgen - Seminar and Cinema

What is Bølgen all about? And can it really happen?

Hovedinnhold

Finally it is here: Norway’s first disaster movie «Bølgen». The movie describes the very realistic scenario of Åkneset sliding into Sunnylvsfjorden, generating a large tsunami. And the hero is a geologist!

We wish to celebrate this with a small seminar, followed by a joint trip to Bergen Kino to watch the movie.

Time: Thursday 3. September 2015
(some of you will recognize the date – this is a slight change of plans)

Program:

15.00 – ca. 16.30: Seminar in Aud 5.

What is Bølgen all about? And can it really happen?

  • Mathilde B. Sørensen (GEO): Tsunami hazard in Norway
  • Benjamin Bellwald (GEO): 19 potential «Bølger» in Hardangerfjorden in the past 11000 years. Will there ever be a «Bølge» number 20?
  • Questions and discussion

18.00: Bølgen in KP 8 (Konsertpaleet, Bergen Kino)

The seminar will be in English. The movie is in Norwegian, but will most likely be a good experience even if your Norwegian is not yet perfect.

You can sign up for this event by sending an email to mathilde.sorensen@uib.no
GEO has generously agreed to sponsor the event, so participation will be free of charge.

There is a limited number of tickets available. Please sign up as soon as possible, and no later than Tuesday 2. September at 12.00. After that, we will distribute the remaining tickets among the MSc students.

Tickets must be picked up in Mathilde’s office (Realfagbygget, room 2118).
