Research and Artistic Development

The Grieg Academy, Department of Music aims to have the highest level of research and artistic development.
The Department has many traditions to preserve, but with a four-fold focus:
• Music Performance and Composition
• Music Pedagogy
• Music Therapy
• Ethnomusicology and Musicology
It is the ambition of the Department to develop all four areas of focus, with respect to both their own internal traditions and a cross-disciplinary approach within the Department.
One particular aspect of the Grieg Academy, Department of Music is the coexistence of research and artistic development. In its research agenda, the Grieg Academy is committed to treating these elements as equals while also facilitating the optimal development of both.
