Continuous measurements

The Meteorology Group at GFI is performing several continuous measurement programs. The activities include actual weather monitoring and data presentation of two sites in the area (Florida and Ulriken) and the operation of an advanced radiation observatory. GFI also hosts an UV monitoring station of the Norwegian Radiation Protection Agency and a passive microwave temperature profiler in cooperation with the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center (NERSC).

Since 1952 measurements of sunshine duration have been carried out on the roof of the Geophysical Institute in rainy Bergen.

Since 2007, solar and terrestrial radiation has been measured continously at the platform EKOFISK in the North Sea. The station is one of very few stations measuring solar and terrestrial radiation over open ocean, and the data are used to validate remote sensing EUMETSAT Ocean and Sea Ice SAF ...

Weather observations in Bergen

The Geophysical Institute (GFI), in cooperation with Aandera Data instruments, carry out different weather observations in Bergen. One station is placed on Florida, close to Bergen centre, and one on Mount Ulriken.
