Lena is looking forward to starting on her master's project

Hovedinnhold

I am really fond of the way the master’s is organized here at MBI. There is a lot of emphasis on labwork, which of course is of major importance if one is interested in pursuing a career in research.

What have you done today?

- My day started at 10:00 with a lecture for my MOL217 course (Applied Bioinformatics II). We are doing a project on phospholiapases which allows us to apply the information provided by the course directly to actual problems.

Since I am also involved in teaching on the Bachelor’s level, I had a meeting with one of the Phd students to discuss grading on some of the reports. I really enjoy working with other students and hope to later get a Phd position that includes some teaching.

Afterwards, I had a lecture in MOL310 Structural Molecular Biology with professor Øyvind Halskau which is always very interesting since he chooses a very biochemistry heavy approach to the topic.

I am very much looking forward to starting my master’s project next semester. Since I am mainly doing theoretical courses this semester, I miss working in the lab.

What do you like by being a student at MBI?

- I am really fond of the way the master’s is organized here at MBI. There is a lot of emphasis on labwork, which of course is of major importance if one is interested in pursuing a career in research.

MBI also offers a lot of interesting theoretical courses while at the same time giving one the opportunity to take some credits at another department which greatly enhances the possibility to study what one is most interested in. I also really enjoy the extensive master’s project and the great freedom of choice when it comes to the topic one is going to work with.

The atmosphere at the department is very open and welcoming which makes it easy to feel at home.
