Natural Products and Marine Bioresource Development

Monica Jordheim´s main research interests are to enhance scientific knowledge and application value of various natural products. Jordheim has over twenty years of experience in quantification and identification of natural products, inluding full molecular elucidation.

Because of the structural diversity, characterization of natural products requires an integrated analytical approach including optimized extraction techniques, multiple steps of chromatography, High Resolutions Mass spectrometry (HRMS) and high field NMR analysis.

BA og MA - prosjekter:

Organisk analyse (ekstraksjon, isolasjon og analyse (HPLC, MS, NMR, UV-Vis)) med ulike prosjekt innen bioprospektering og utvikling av marine bioressurser (alger: tang og tare (høstet og dyrket), sjøgress, marine planter og dyphavsmateriale). Flere av prosjektene gjøres sammen med industrielle partnere.

Mål og innhald

Emnet skal gje ei forståing av korleis ein kan analysere organiske sambindingar ved hjelp av spektroskopiske metodar som infraraud-(IR), ultrafiolett-synlig (UV-Vis) og kjernemagnetisk resonans-(NMR) spektroskopi, samt massespektrometri (MS). Emnet er spesielt konsentrert om tolking av data, men ei grunnleggjande forståing av dei ulike analysemetodane blir også vektlagt. I kurset vil hovudfokus ligge på metodane NMR og MS.
