HELP IN USING THE
database of Nordic Neo-Latin Literature
GENERAL
You can search the database over Nordic Neo-Latin Literature
in two different ways. Either by doing a
freetext search
or by doing a
fieldwise search.
If you type something into the freetext search box, the freetext
search will be used and other inputs will be ignored.
The returned data can be displayed in two different presentation formats.
THE FREETEXT SEARCH
If you type something into the freetext search box, other
inputs will be ignored. The database will be searched using
a «freetext search» based on the keywords given in the freetext
search box.
Truncation is possible by ending the inputword with an asterix (*).
Ie, input «Joha» will match nothing, but keyword «Joha*» will
match both «Johan» and «Johannes».
Combinations of words may be searched by use of the operators OR or AND.
If no operator is specified, OR will be used. The search is case-insensitive.
The character «;» will be treated as «AND» while «,» will be treated as «OR».
After filling in the freetext search box, you push the
button «Start search» at the bottom of the search page.
The search will take a few seconds, after which a list of the records
matching your request will appear, stating the author, the year of
publication and the short title as hypertext.
At a click on the hypertext the data in the record will be displayed,
according to the presentation format chosen. The matching words will
be highlighted as bold italic text when the database records
are displayed.

THE FIELDWISE SEARCH
The fieldwise search will limit your search to one or more specified fields.
The different search boxes may be used separately or in combination. Note
that you do not have to fill in the author box in order to use the
«secondary search criteria» boxes.
All inputs are truncated during the search, so that e.g. «joha» will match
both «Johan» and «Johannes».
When you have given your search criteria, you push the «Start search» button
at the bottom of the page. The search will take a few seconds, after which a
list of the records matching your request will appear, stating the author,
the year of publication, a nd the short title as hypertext. At a click on
the hypertext the data in the record will be displayed, according to the
presentation format chosen.
The matching words will
be highlighted as bold italic text when the database records
are displayed.
Author
Fill the name of an author.
Two words can be given separated with AND, ie: «david and lund», searching
for author fields with both the words «david» and «lund».
Word beginnings and endings are searchable by the use of spaces: « lund »
will match only the word «Lund», while « lund» will match «Lund» or
«Lundgren», but not «Hegelund», and «lund » will not match «Lundgren».
Buttons under author
If you click on «No», only the field of the primary author will be searched.
If not, secondary authors (i.e. authors of minor parts of the book) will be
included in the search as well.
Secondary field is
If you choose AND, the search will have to match both the author and the
secondary search criteria.
If you choose OR, the search returns entries if either the author or the
secondary search criteria match records in the database.

a year into the form.
