About the University of Bergen's Nile Area Programme

The University of Bergen (UiB) has since the early 1960s had a strong research interest in the Nile countries. A great number of researchers from the University of Bergen have carried out research in the Nile countries in co-operation with institutions in the Nile area. These ties have also been strengthened by the many guest researchers from the Nile area visiting UiB, and researchers from UiB being guest researchers or visiting professors at institutions in the Nile countries.

UiB's research projects in the Nile area span a great range of research interests ranging from disciplines within the humanities and the social and natural sciences to health research and law, including but far from exclusively issues related to the river. This very broad research interest in and co-operation with the Nile region necessitates a comprehensive presentation which we intend to do on these pages. This web site promotes and highlights all of these activities, interests and ties.
