Doctoral education at the Faculty of Social Sciences

The Faculty of Social Sciences offers organized doctoral education. It is also possible to apply for a scholarship through the Research Council of Norway.

PhD

The Faculty of Social Sciences offers doctoral education leading to a PhD. The doctoral education is organized in the form of the Social Science Research School.

The doctoral education lasts for a standard period of three years and includes independent scientific work in the form of a thesis to be defended at a public defence. In addition, the organized doctoral education includes a training module lasting one semester (at least).

The faculty is responsible for coordinating the doctoral education.

Scholarship

The Research Council of Norway offers scholarships for studies and research in Norway and fund researcher mobility and networking between institutions from Norway and many other countries. Normally you must be admitted to an organised PhD programme to be eligible to apply for the Research Council's scholarships. Researchers from abroad must also have formal affiliation with a Norwegian institution to be eligible to seek Norwegian funding.
