Research Approach

Research Projects

At present within NORPEC five main research projects are underway.

1. Multi-proxy climate reconstructions of the late-glacial and early Holocene.
2. Holocene glacial and climate history of contrasting areas in Norway, reconstructed from glacial and biological proxies in lake sediments.
3. Stable isotopes in lake sediments and temperature reconstructions.
4. Oslo to Trondheim Holocene climate transect (OTT)
5. Modern calibration data-sets.

The research projects are distributed throughout Norway. Click on the areas on the map or the key to read about the project.

Research Methods

A range of research methods is used, usually in combination as multi-proxy studies.

Geomorphology of glacial lakes
Sedimentology of glacial lakes
Dating with Pb210
Diatoms
Coring
Pollen analysis
Isotopes
Macrofossils
Magnetism

Other activities

· NORPEC now has a regular seminar series in which all the stipendiats play a major role. (Abstracts from talks at meetings)
· Two EU-Marie Curie Training Sites are associated with NORPEC: QPALEN and QPALCLIM. As of February 2003, 7 doctoral students have come to work within NORPEC from 5 countries.
· NORPEC occasionally invites guest lecturers and holds occasional workshops.
