My research is focused on thermophilic organisms living in hydrothermal environments. In my work I combine isolation and physiological characterisation of microbial strains with ecological and evolutionary studies. A major goal is to understand how and how fast the evolution of certain phenotypes occur and how bacterial communities in hydrothermal environments change over time due to environmental changes.
