1. The study of diversity, systematics, phylogeny and trophic biology of shelled opisthobranch molluscs (Order Cephalaspidea). I use morphological and molecular data to recognize species and reconstruct hypotheses of evolution and relationships. I am also interested in looking into how dietary specialization has driven evolution in cephalaspidean molluscs.
2. Patterns and processes of speciation, diversity and biogeography of organisms in the marine realm. Using molluscs as a model, and bringing together systematics, phylogeny, ecology, biogeography and palaeontology, I am interested in understand the patterns and processes of speciation and extinction that lead to the present diversity patterns in the oceans.
3. Dating the tree of life: a molluscan point of view. Using phylogenetic analysis, paleontological evidence, and likelihood and Bayesian methods to estimate divergence dates, I am looking into the time of origin of the extant groups of opisthobranch gastropods, particularly the shell-less groups which lack a fossil record.
4. Broad interest in diversity, ecology and conservation of marine molluscs.
Systematics of molluscs, morphological and anatomical studies of molluscs, trophic ecology of molluscs, evolution and diversification of molluscs in the ocean, phylogenetic analysis of molecular data
