Min faglige hovedinteresse befinner seg innen det vidt definerte området miljøantropologi (eller økologisk antropologi). Jeg er særlig opptatt av hvilke kunnskaper og modeller ulike aktører besitter og informeres av i samhandling og konflikt omkring ressursforvaltning og miljøkonflikter. Mye av min forskning er tverrfaglig. Jeg har særlig arbeidet tett med biologer og sosiologer men også andre i større integrerte EU-finansiert prosjekt som fokuserer på forvaltning av Europas havområder. Mine studier har fortrinnsvis fokusert på marine ressurser/omgivelser, men interessene mine har de siste årene også rettet seg mot energiprosjekter og miljøvernbevegelser.

Jeg er ikke bare opptatt av 'lokale ressursbrukere' eller av lokal motstand mot energiprosjekter, men også av hvordan statsrepresentanter, (globalisert) kapital, forskere og andre er med på å skape vår forståelse og politikk i forhold til våre omgivelser. Dermed er jeg også interessert i hvordan dominerende diskurser om natur og miljø utvikler seg, hvilke implikasjoner de har og hvordan ulike aktører forholder seg til dem. Denne interesse har bl.a. manifestert seg i et fokus på biodiversitetsdiskursen, særlig slik den kommer til utrykk i forskning og forvaltning omkring 'fremmede arter', og mer nylig i et nytt forskningsprosjekt som fokuserer på hvordan norske energibedrifter håndterer samfunnsansvar når de opererer i utlandet (ENERGETHICS: http://www.uib.no/en/project/energethics).

Jeg er nå i ferd med å utvikle et nytt forskningsprosjekt der jeg vil undersøke hvordan fiskeoppdrett i Norge og i Tyrkia forholder seg til det grønne skiftet og bærekraft.
