I am a social and visual anthropologist working mainly on Ethiopia and Africa. My major research topics include Ethnicity, Identity Politics, Clanship, Islam, Islamic Reformism, Muslims’ Identities, Sufism, Ethnographic Film, Representation and Indignity.
The Topic of my Mphil Thesis was “Minority Identity and Ethnic Politics in Ethiopia: The Case of the Weyto” December 2001. In this thesis I explored the incompatibilities between the current Ethiopia state politics of Ethnicity vis-à-vis the complexity of identity processes by focusing on an indigenous group of people called the Weyto. In my PhD project I continued with the general theme of Identity Politics focusing on Islam and ethnicity.
