Admission to Doctoral Education at the Faculty of Social Sciences
Admission Requirements - PhD
- The applicant must have a higher degree in social sciences, within the subject of study to which he or she is seeking admission, equivalent to the Norwegian Master’s degree, the Norwegian ’hovedfag’, or Cand.Polit. degree (equivalent of five to six years of higher education).
- Degrees from other subject areas will be subject to academic assessment. The applicant’s degree must be recognised by the Faculty of Social Sciences. Applicants with education from non-European universities will as a general rule not receive credit for their first year of study at university level. Please note that a Master’s degree does not automatically guarantee eligibility for admission.
- The applicant must present academic endorsement from the proposed supervisor or the relevant department in the Faculty of Social Sciences. Thus, anyone interested in applying must contact the appropriate department before applying.
- Admission depends on sufficient funding for the entire programme period (three years). The applicant must therefore submit a plan for full financial coverage, with documentation of awarded scholarship or research funding. The Faculty does not provide scholarships. The Faculty does not accept private funding.
